Full House Re-Render and Exterior Spray Painting in Cheam, Surrey
We recently completed a full exterior re-render and spray painting project on a family home in Cheam, Surrey. It was a substantial job — scaffolding, full render strip-back, new sand and cement render throughout, then a professional spray-painted finish in brilliant white. From start to finish, the project took six weeks. The result speaks for itself.
Why Full Re-Render Before Exterior Spray Painting?
You can’t spray-paint over failing render and expect it to last. If the substrate is cracked, loose or compromised in any way, the finish will fail with it — no matter how good the paint or the application.
On this property, the existing render had deteriorated to the point where patching it wasn’t the right answer. The only way to guarantee a long-lasting result was to strip everything back and start again properly. That’s what we did.
How We Approached the Project
Scaffolding
We erected full scaffolding around the house and garage. It adds time to the programme, but it’s the only way to work safely and access every surface properly. Trying to cut corners on access shows up in the finished result. We don’t cut corners.
Stripping the Old Render
All of the existing render was removed across the entire exterior. This is labour-intensive, but it’s essential. Any old material left behind becomes a weak point under the new render.
Surface Preparation and New Render
Once the substrate was clean and sound, we prepared the surface thoroughly before applying mesh and beading — both critical for controlling cracking and achieving clean, sharp lines at edges and reveals. New sand and cement render was then applied to all surfaces and left to dry and stabilise fully before we moved on to the spray painting phase.
This drying and stabilisation period is non-negotiable. Fresh render is alkaline. Paint applied too early will fail. Patience here is what separates a finish that lasts from one that doesn’t.
Exterior Spray Painting in Brilliant White
Once the render was fully cured, we spray-painted the entire exterior in brilliant white using professional-grade coatings. Spray application gives an even, consistent finish across large surfaces that brush or roller simply can’t match — no lap marks, no texture variation, just a clean, factory-quality result.
We use low-VOC, water-based paints throughout our exterior work — products formulated to handle the demands of the UK climate and deliver a finish that holds its colour and integrity for years.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a full exterior re-render and spray painting project take?
It depends on the size of the property and the extent of the work. This project in Cheam took six weeks in total — including scaffolding, full render removal, new render application, curing time, and exterior spray painting. Curing time alone can add one to two weeks, and it can’t be rushed without compromising the finished result.
Do I need to fully re-render before having my house exterior spray painted?
Not always. If the existing render is sound — no significant cracking, no loose or hollow sections — it can be prepared and spray-painted directly. But if the render is failing, painting over it is a false economy. The paint will only be as durable as the surface underneath it. We assess every property individually and give you an honest recommendation.
What type of paint is used for exterior spray painting on rendered houses in Surrey?
We use professional-grade, low-VOC, water-based masonry coatings designed for exterior use in the UK climate. These are formulated to flex with the substrate through seasonal temperature changes, resist moisture, and hold their finish and colour over the long term — backed by our 10-year guarantee.
